African Diaspora

I am at work on a book entitled The African Diaspora: A History through Culture. It addresses the past six hundred years in seven chronological chapters, and traces interactions among the African continent, the Atlantic diaspora, and the Old World diaspora throughout that time.

One of my favorite publications on the African diaspora is on art history: "Primitive Art and Modern Times," in Radical History Review

In a recent review essay, I have argued that scholars in African Studies and Africa-Diaspora Studies should draw more full on each other's work, to provide a more integrated view of African and Diaspora history: “Africa and the African Diaspora: New Directions of Study,” Journal of African History 44 (2003).
