While the volume of global historical research continues to accelerate, and while individual research projects have been able to obtain significant funding, there still exists no established sources of funding for research in world history. In particular, there has been almost no transnational funding of studies in world history. Such studies, if they could be supported, would enable researchers in different countries to work together, combining their energies to develop broader perspectives and deeper collections of data on the human past.
"The Fund for World History in Perspective: A Proposal". This funding proposal, co-authored with Y. T. Li and developed in 2004-5, makes the case for the importance of general funding for research in world history.
