In addition to my early work on African economic history in global context, my main recent effort has been to seek support for
a World History Databank to gather, transform, and display worldwide data on economic, demographic, and social history.
I also participate as one of thirty scholars from around the world in the Global Economic History Network (GEHN), based at the London School of Economics and funded by a grant from the Leverhulme Foundation. This group addresses five themes in global economic history of the past five centuries: markets, imperialism, cultures, knowledge, and cotton textiles.
