Historiography

My main work in historiography is Navigating World History (Palgrave Macmillan, 2003), an overview of the field of world history in past and present.

In addition I published an article on the world historical concept of "connections" and how to teach it: “Interactions and Connections: Locating and Managing Historical Complexity”, The History Teacher (2006) and a chapter on "Methods and Materials" in the Palgrave Guide to World Histories, ed. Marnie Hughes-Warrington (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005). In addition, I have a chapter on "North American Approaches to Global History" in a forthcoming book edited by Birgit Schaebler.

"Gutenberg-e: Electronic Access to the Historical Professoriate" is an essay reviewing the Gutenberg-e project of electronic books, published in the December 2004 American Historical Review.

H-WORLD Author's Forum - Discussion of Navigating World History, beginning 9 February 2004.
